John’s Blog – the wonders of nature

French carping at Bletiere

One of the many bonuses in life in having your own lake and grounds is that it gives you the chance to observe nature and the way it works.

I was sat fishing for a few hours yesterday when fish started to splash around the edges.  I guessed something had started to spawn and as I sat still they made their way around to me.

It turned out to be the pike starting to spawn and in the photos you can just make out the female pike with a male just waiting for the eggs to be laid.

Every year the pike are the first to spawn followed by the roach and then the carp.  It makes you realise what a wonderful thing nature is in the way she sets up the food chain.

Tight lines,  John
