A March Session on Molyneux

Dominic and Thomas fished Molyneux early March, ending the week with 34 fish between them. Read Dominic’s report below…

Upon arrival at Molyneux on 7th March we were greeted with a warm welcome from Wally and Helen with a nice cup of coffee after the long drive from England.

It was a dry, clear and fairly warm morning and once we had a walk around the lake we decided on pegs based on where the other anglers fancied and the weather conditions. Although we were open to moving at any moment as it is a known fact the fish tend to move around on this lake. After setting up it only took 30mins until Tom was into his first fish, a pristine 29lb Mirror with a huge tail and a body shaped like a dinner plate.

Captures became consistent for Tom as he managed to find some clear feeding spots on all 3 rods that proved to be doing the job. It took until the second afternoon for me to hit into my first fish which ended up being a 30.6lb Mirror that put up a strong 20+ minute fight!

Towards the middle of the week I decided to move round and fish the next peg up from Tom. With my fingers crossed the move would pay off on the first night catching 4 more fish at midnight, 2am, 5am and first light 8am. Which kept the numbers topped up as Tom was steaming ahead and was around 6 fish in front by this point.

We had some lovely warm evenings towards the middle of the week and made the most of it by joining up with the lads on the cabin Ryan & Jonathan for a BBQ and a couple of beers.

Getting on to the later end of the week the catching was still consistent with us both managing to get some more upper 30s on the bank. The question marks started to pop up on when the first 40lb fish would be caught around the lake. On the second to last night, shortly after our discussion, Tom’s middle rod took off with him immediately realising it was a common. After a tough fight we knew there was a serious fish in the landing net, which turned out to be the Big Common weighing in at a whopping 45lb!

All fish were caught from accurate steady amounts of baiting with boilie and the excellent mixed particle provided by Wally.

The lake is a true credit to Wally, it is beautifully maintained with stunning picturesque pegs surrounded by willow trees. It is genuinely a little paradise based in the Eure Valley!

5* Service from Wally and his wife Helen, thank you for a fantastic trip and we will 100% be seeing you again soon!

Overall catch report:1 x 45lb, 18 x 30lb+, 14 x 20lb+ and 2 x Tench.
