Every angler coming to France for the first time looks forward with great hope and anticipation to the challenges ahead. Will they catch at a new venue in a new country? Will they have to admit to a blank in the bar of the ferry on the way home?
Dan Meleder hit the jackpot on Saturday night at Alder as his first carp in France weighed in at 52.6lbs, doubling his PB. He caught on a standard critically balanced rig using Cell boilies.
Dan had joined Jean-Paul and Wayne who were back on their third trip to Alder. Many groups have found it an effective strategy to bait up and then rest their swims at tea time for an hour or two, resulting in a lively evening and night session.
The group were fishing their favourite west bank, which has been very productive in previous years, and were catching steadily when Wayne hooked into a fish which fought differently from the usually lively, hyper-oxygenated Alder carp. This fish confidently used its weight against the angler, refusing to be drawn in. Wayne patiently played the fish until it agreed to visit the net. After hauling the carp to the scales the needle spun round to 53lbs: Lightning had struck again, twice in the same week!

Dan – 52lb 8oz
The guys’ final tally was over seventy fish in cracking Creuse sunshine. Here’s their feedback;
