Looking For Carp AND Catfish? Top 7 French Lakes To Visit

If you are looking for a French lake that is home to both carp and catfish then the following seven venues are well worth a look.

1. Vaumigny

This lake is not for the faint hearted or inexperienced – you’ll be tackling catfish to over 170lb, sturgeon to over 100lb and carp to over 60lb. Anglers who favour wild and natural lakes will find themselves right at home.

At 37 acres there’s plenty of water for everyone. A total of 15 swims, 2 of these being doubles, span the perimeter of the lake.

2. Brocard Small

Another lake for those anglers that prefer to ‘get away from it all’, Brocard Small is long and thin in shape, encompassing around 29 acres (not exactly small at all then!).  It holds a good stock of incredible looking carp to well over 50lb & catfish to 110lb.

Four swims, all doubles, are spread along the length of the water.

The lake is a 4hr drive from the port of Calais.

3. Beaurepaire

A natural gravel-pit of 7 acres, Beaurepaire holds catfish to over 100lb and plenty of 40 & 50lb carp. The lake ideally suits a group of up to six anglers looking to book a lake exclusively… but individual bookings are welcome too.

There are no designated swims but there’s plenty of room to bivvy up all round the lake.

Beaurepaire is a very easy 2hr 30 drive from the port of Calais.

4. Glehias

One of the more luxurious venues, you book Glehias exclusively for the week – this includes private use of the two lakes and farmhouse accommodation. The main fishing lake is 3.2 acres in size and home to carp up to over 45lb and catfish up to 65lb.

Gléhias also offers a unique experience in the form of a floating cabin housing the lakeside facilities. There is an optional food package here too.

5. Malvoisine

Malvoisine really is the perfect venue for a get together with family or angling friends. Fishing from a two acre “island”, you can all socialise without having to reel-in.

The 17 acre lake holds carp and catfish to around 50lb and the fishing is usually action-packed.

6. Molyneux

Molyneux is a beautifully mature tree-lined lake of 13 acres, with 10 swims for a maximum of 8 anglers. The catfish here go to 90lb and the carp to high forties.

There is an optional food package and lakeside cabin accommodation which can be hired, with it’s own swim directly in front.

2hr 45 drive from the port of Calais and 1hr 30 from the port of Le Harve.

7. Notaires
