Mark Twaite & his 41.08 Alder Mirror

Alder Lake is a mature 10 acre clay/gravel pit within a beautifull valley in the limousin area of France.  It’s just a 5 ½ hr drive from Calais which is on all major roads going through two toll’s with plenty of services to stop for refreshments. The stunning lake, woodland and scenery makes Alder a very special place to be and to spend your holiday. The sounds of wildlife and fish crashing makes it very relaxing and tranqil.  The lake itself is a picture and it will stay in your mind for a very long time.

The lake is stunning.

The depths range from 5ft close in the margins to 16ft deep in the middle. There are two inlets and one outlet allowing the water to flow through the channels giving the lake plenty of naturals. There are several features to the bottom of the lake bed… gravel patches, silt gullies, marginal shelfs, snags and hard clay humps. These all produce fish and in quantity too. Don’t ignore the snags around the two bays where the fish hold up in the day and is a great spot for a bit of stalking.

The nearby town of Boussac

The surroundings of Alder lake have amazing views with lots of wildlife to see day and night. This beautifull lake is only 10 minutes drive away from Boussac, the local town, which has everything you require for your weeks stay like Carrefour the supermarket, pharmacy, resturants and several cafe bars along with a bank. It’s a great place to unwind during the day if you fancy a break from the fishing with a very friendly environment.

The action can be thick and fast at Alder Lake – it’s a real runs water with majority of the carp ranging from 25lb to high 30lb with several from 40lb to 48lb… & all in pristine condition. The stock of the lake is around 270 carp plus one catfish of around 50 lb and grass carp to mid doubles.

The fish come from all over the lake with no set feeding pattern day and night. Simple rigs and baiting application using Quest Baits boilie works extremley well along with maize, pellet and particle that you can buy from the owners, Chris & Stef Dagg, once you’re there.

You can often find fish in the bays – a stalkers paradise!

5 anglers fishing 3 rods have plenty of room with lots of features to fish to and there is the option of using the two bays for stalking, you’ll often see the large residents mooching around here during the hot days. The over hanging tree’s and bushes, reed beds and snags are very visible and all look extremly carpy indeed. You will often see the carp close in the margins if you walk round and be amazed at the size of some of these creatures.

There is a wooden hut with a eco-friendly toilet which is flushed by a bucket of water.  This was inported from Canada especially.  There’s also a secure cabin that has a sink, gas oven and grill with table and chairs to do all your cooking and eating during meal times. There is a fridge freezer to store food or bait at the house, with all batteries for boats, phones and cameras there is also power to charge these with no extra cost.

If your looking for a prolific venue to spend your holiday this year in France with beautifull surroundings and fantasic fishing, wether its a group of friends or family, you will find Alder Lake will meet all your requirements and fulfill your dreams. The fishing itself can be fast and furious and multiple catches are common.  We had as many as 15 fish per day, with majority being over 25lb.

When choosing your holiday you’re looking for value for money along with knowing that everything you’re told is exactly how it is and better… well Alder Lake will not dissapoint you!  I’ve shot a video showing you around the lake, explaining the swims, where to fish, how to bait up, the rigs, the depths and how to find the features along with the wildlife and stunning views.   It’ll be on-line soon.

This lake is truly breathtaking and will make your holiday the best ever!
